WEF & Mission
The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization representing water quality professionals around the world. Their mission is to connect water professionals; enrich the expertise of water professionals; increase the awareness of the impact and value of water; and provide a platform for water sector innovation. WEF and its global network of members and Member Associations provide water quality professionals around the world with the latest in water quality education, training, and business opportunities.
The Water Garden
The WEF holds a yearly conference and exhibition, called WEFtec, and selects a community service project during their conference, somewhere within the host community. This year’s project was called El Jardin de Agua (The Water Garden) located at Maria Saucedo Scholastic Academy in Chicago. This project was a huge undertaking, but the Water Environment Federation and its volunteers were up for the task! The goal of this year's project was to alleviate some water issues that have plagued the entrance to this school, but to also create some learning spaces in the process. They introduced permeable paving, a rain garden, and rainwater storage to the site to accomplish their goals.
Lurvey Partners with WEF
Lurvey was privileged to be a partner and a source for a lot of the materials that went to the site including Eden Outcropping, Unilock Turfstone and Holland pavers, gravel, mulch, and more. We made several deliveries to the site including a direct load of 3/4 inch gravel. Our Garden Center staff helped to calculate material and coordinate all of the deliveries to the site. To help ensure that all aspects of the project could be completed, Lurvey provided all of the products at a discounted price and even donated some of the material. We hope that we can be part of the next WEF Annual Service Project! To learn more about WEF you can visit their website: www.wef.org
